Neerja (2016)

This is a story based on a real life hero Neerja Bhanot who saved e59 lives but lost her own.

The role of Neerja is played by Sonam Kapoor.

A 22 years old part-time model, she was the head flight attendant of PanAm73 on 5th sep,1986. When the flight landed in Karachi, it was hijacked by terrorists. After watching the movie I totally believe that they were psychotic, seriously so. Neerja is able to warn the pilots before the plane takes off, thus preventing the terrorists' plan to force the plane to Cyprus.

The terrorists start killing passengers. All the while, Neerja tries to be brave and help the passengers as much as she can.

Some 17 hours later the plane loses auxiliary power and the lights go out. Despite Neerja and the other attendants trying to explain this as a normal airplane reaction, the terrorists believe the power was cut by the Pakistan armed forces who will soon storm the plane. They now begin indiscriminately shooting passengers. At great peril to her own life Neerja opens the rear door and deploys the chute and begins directing passengers down the chute. Neerja could have escaped by herself but she chose to put the passengers first. In the end she is shot by the terrorists as she tries to shield young children from the gunfire.
I didn't cry through all this. But, at the end of the film, Neerja's mother, played by Shabana Azmi, gives a tribute to her on her one year death anniversary. That's when you suddenly feel the impact of the whole movie.
There are other elements that make this story more tragic. But, its worth seeing
