This is not a regular hero-beats-villain-and-wins-heroine types movie, although the genre can be said historic romance. It isn't exactly that.
This movie, along with its sequel, is the story of two generations of kings. This story has everything you can think a good novel has, love, friendship, betrayal, deaths, wars, everything you can think of in a historical novel.
So, the movie starts with a lady running from soldiers with a baby in her arms. She saves him (kinda) but dies in the process. The baby is found by a tribe where he is named Shiva and raised as the son of the cheiftan. His whole life, his mission is to cross the water fall or Jalparvat, as they call it. Which he does one day, encouraged by a mask that fell from the top of the waterfall.
He doesn't know it yet. But he is the heir of the Great King Bahubali of Maheshmati who was betrayed and killed.
He basically goes and finds the girl whose mask it was. They fall in love (though there is only a song that depicts it). To fullfill her wishes, he goes to Maheshmati to rescue Devsena who has been kept prisoner there. She's the wife of Bahubali, who he later comes to know was his father and he inherited his looks.
The story is amazing and has a very cruel cliffhanger. I would say its like a novel who you know is awesome and has a sad ending and you still read it. Only the ending isn't exactly sad.
There are so many awesome sequences in this one, you would be mesmerized. The waterfall sequence (you would be left wondering where that waterfall is), the war sequence (such intelligence!!!). And many others.
You know what I think is the best part of the movie? The music. Its fantastically placed, just right for the situations. I mean there are not many romance songs. Its more like they just get together. From what I know, the second movie is gonna be more of a love story. This movie is not a love story. Its about a great empire.
WATCH IT!!! You won't regret it.....
